Sony Offers 'smoking' TV Checks

Sony is to offer giveaway safety checks on a few of its TV models after a number of sets proposed smoking.

The firm warned that a part used in 8 not similar versions of its Bravia televisions might be inadequate and could, in singular cases, overheat.

However, it stopped partial of arising a full recall.

Instead Sony mentioned that any person who was upset could solicit an operative advance to their home for giveaway to assess their TV.

The models affected are all LCDs, sole in Europe given June 2007.

They are: KDL-40D3400, KDL-40D3500, KDL-40D3550, KDL-40D3660.

KDL-40V3000, KDL-40W3000, KDL-40X3000, KDL-40X3500.

Some 1.6 million of the TVs have been sole worldwide; 630,000 of them in Europe.

Reports of overheating sets have so far all advance from Japan.

The firm mentioned that the televisions were not at chance whilst they were switched off.

It warned owners to be wakeful of any out of the ordinary noises, smells or smoking forthcoming from their Bravia.

Anyone seeing those symptoms should unplug the power line and end using the set immediately, mentioned a Sony statement.
