Hewlett U-turn On Selling Personal Computer Arm

Hewlett Packard (HP) says it will correct away keep its personal P.C. section after reviewing a outline by its one-time arch senior manager to sell it.

The preference to keep the personal systems organisation (PSG) was done by HP's new head, Meg Whitman, who mentioned HP would be a "stronger" definite as a result.

Her predecessor, Leo Apotheker, mentioned progressing this year the company would look to offshoot the hardware arm.

PSG is the world's greatest creator of personal computers.

Ms Whitman mentioned in a matter : "Keeping PSG inside of HP is right. HP objectively evaluated the strategic, financial and functional repercussions of spinning off PSG.

"HP is committed to PSG, and together you are stronger," mentioned Ms Whitman, a one-time eBay senior manager who took over in September.

She added: "It's coherent after the review that gripping PSG inside of HP is correct for customers and partners, correct for shareholders, and correct for employees."

Analysts welcomed the decision, with Forrester's Frank Gillett saying: "Hopefully this is a commencement of a set of events over the next year that demonstrates the house has a improved hold on things."

The outline to sell PSG was segment of Mr Apotheker's strategy to refocus HP on program and clouded cover services.

But inside of months of being allocated in November final year, shareholders and analysts became nervous about his programmed changes and successive merger of the UK program company Autonomy.

HP shares fell 20% the day after Mr Apotheker voiced the probable offshoot of the Personal Computer arm, and mislaid 40% of their worth during his tenure.

Shares in the company rose 4.8% on Thursday.
