A firm called MediaMall Technologies has introduced giveaway beta program for its PlayLater service, a new DVR recording technology for video calm delivered over the Internet.

The PlayLater focus turns any Windows Personal Computer in to a digital video tape deck for online video. On its website, PlayLater poses the subject that many will ask: Is PlayLater legal?

"PlayLater is a authorised technology that is written to let people watch authorised online calm at a time of their choosing. Just similar to the announce DVR and the VCR before it, PlayLater is written for personal use and convenience," the firm wrote.

PlayLater functions with streaming video from about 3 dozen Internet services, inclusive Netflix, CBS, TBS, YouTube, Hulu, BET, Cartoon Network, CNN, Comedy Central, ESPN and ESPN3, Fox News, MTV, National Geographic, Nick, OWN, PBS and PBS Kids, Syfy Rewind and TV.com.

During the beta period, PlayLater will be giveaway of charge. When it's strictly released, the service will cost $4.99 per month or $49.99 per year. The program archives shows streamed over the Internet in actual time, only as a established recorder. Playback uses Microsoft Windows Media Player.

PlayLater does enable viewers to fast-forward by commercials. Most online streaming videos need viewers to watch the ads in actual time.

According to MediaMall, a typical 22-minute sitcom will need about 500MB of storage. A one-hour show, that uses about 45 mins of video, requires 1GB of storage. A typical film uses about 2GB of storage. Users should have an Internet broadband connection of at least 1.5Mb/s is to service.

The PlayLater program requires Microsoft's Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows Server 2003/Windows Home Server, together with Internet Explorer 7 or after that and Windows Media Player 9 or later. MediaMall recommends PCs with Pentium 4 3.2+ GHz processors or faster, 512MB of RAM (1GB recommended) and 100MB of existing hoop space for designation in addition to 4GB to 5GB additional space for recorded videos.
