Hands-On With The Pinwide Wideangle Pinhole For Micro Four Thirds

Back in April, we wrote about the Pinwide wide-angle pinhole lens for Micro Four Thirds cameras. we favourite it so sufficient we systematic one, and we betrothed to let you know how it worked out. The partial answer? Pretty good, for a pinhole. The long answer? Read on.

The Pinwide is a cosmetic hoop that clicks onto the lens get up of my Panasonic GF1 similar to any other lens. It has a somewhat dished conical figure that puts the pinhole back inside the body. This is what creates it wide-angle, and it's something not probable on an SLR since the counterpart that slaps around inside the body. The pinhole itself is laser-cut in to a minuscule hoop of steel at the center.

In use, you get to arrange the camera's ISO and shiver speed, and that's it. The orifice is prearranged at around '96-'128, so even in splendid object you'll must be holder your ISO to a minimum of ISO 800. And with such a minuscule aperture, all in the frame, nearby or far, is in focus.

It's surprisingly fun to use. Set the camera to orifice priority, holder up the ISO and all you have left to do is indicate and shoot. The 22mm focal length (35mm equivalent) means you can stand a couple of feet from a person and takeover them from tip to toe. It moreover means dreamy, super-wide landscape and cityscape shots.

The consequent cinema are grainy (noisy), becloud and have a few categorically uncanny shade shifts. In short, only the type of thing you outlay long mins achieving in grunge-ifying apps similar to Instagram.

If you're seeking for high-fidelity shots, you won't find them here. If you're seeking for $40 value of fun, along with a few indeed unusual-looking shots, then the Pinwide is only the thing. Recommended.
