Even with the new features forthcoming in iOS5, the iPad (and iPhone) Photos app is flattering bad for obviously observation photos - the really reason for its existence. If you use iPhoto to coordinate your photos on your P.C. (Mac-only), then you can have it produce albums of faces and places, but many of the time you're left scrolling by the "Photos" section, that contains everything, only to find a photo.
Fotoboard is an iPad app that creates albums. You can make these manually, or you can crop a monthly calendar that lets you go see all the photos you took on, say, your birthday two years ago. This alone would be value the cost of the app (currently free) if it weren't for a couple of annoyances (more on the in a minute).
Creating your own albums is easy. You click the "plus" sign, increase a pretension and then select the photos in a lot from the aware iOS photo-picker. You can increase more photos later, too, together with stealing them.
You can perspective the images away and appropriate by them. In this box you see the cinema on a tidy wood-style background, along with a square of paper with paltry metadata displayed (a chart will moreover uncover up if there is geo-data in the picture file). You can moreover increase captions, and send photos around email, Facebook or Twitter.
You can moreover beginning a slideshow, selecting possibly the same wooden-table view, or a fullscreen mode. Finally, you can share photos with other Fotoboard users on your local network around Wi-Fi.
Fotoboard is still really young, and there are a few large omissions. You can't re-order photos in an album, for example. But the greatest suffering is the actions of the monthly calendar view.
It defaults to the oldest picture in your library, and to page by dates you must be daub the minuscule arrows that flip you a month at a time. Exit the monthly calendar and re-enter and you have to beginning over. Fotoboard desperately needs a improved way to navigate dates.
That said, its simply the prettiest and easiest to use Album app we have nonetheless found (and we have attempted a lot). And correct right away it is moreover free, that means that iPad-toting photographers have no forgive not to try it out.
