An endeavor to uncover live tweets on hulk screens at the venue of an EU zenith in Brussels has been hijacked by critics of Italian PM Silvio Berlusconi.
One twitter called him a "mafioso". Another mentioned Mr Berlusconi had paid for "for sex, for votes".
The "tweet wall" was shown on two plasma screens in the principal gymnasium of the building, as 27 European leaders met to confer the eurozone debt crisis.
The assessment was stopped after two hours. Organisers say its principal objective was met.
The twitter wall was automatic to republish all postings with the hashtag "#EUCO", on the initial day of the zenith on Thursday.
A inundate of scornful messages were flashed, including: "Berlusconi is a mafioso, but he creates laws for be not judged [sic]".
Another Twitter user posted aged quotes from the Italian important apportion directed at annoying him, including: "Mussolini never killed anyone. Mussolini used to send people on legal holiday in inner exile."
The EU authorized who organized the examination told the BBC its target had been to assessment ways of compelling the European Council's participation on Twitter and this had been achieved.
She mentioned her group would examination with other collection in the future and was "learning by doing".
