Unison Research Unico CDE CD Player Review

The $2295 Primo sounded terrific, with an outlay theatre built around a 12AU7/ECC82 tube, a USB digital input, and a 96/24 upsampling DAC chip. The Unico CDE, moreover a 24/96 upsampling CD Player, has 4 identical tiwn triode tubes in the analog outlay stage. The erect high quality is extraordinary, receiving things to a entire new level. There is a digital submit around coaxial RCA, and both single-ended and offset outputs. The CDE, similar to the rest of the Unico line, is existing in china and black. The CDE sells for $3895 sell in silver.

As with all Unison Research products, the CDE is done in Italy at their company’s assembly lines in Treviso. As noted, there are 4 12AX7 sort tubes in the outlay theatre as against to the singular blood vessel found in the CDPrimo. A imperishable TEAC ride is used and valid to be a well-spoken operator. The section ships batch with a Crystal procedure as the typical converter, but there is an elective DAC house whose principal active part is the top-shelf Wolfson Micro WM8740, used here as a dual- mono, dual-differential design. The ascent is $225, and my examination representation arrived this way. According to the manual, you can even switch between the batch DAC house and the upgraded procedure around an on shade menu. As with the Primo, and with possibly DAC board, the signals are upsampled to from typical Redbook CD to 96 Khz, 24 bits.

In a turn that may be mentioned to be a bit of Italian uniqueness, the digital submit accepts up to 44.1 Khz, but the player sends 96 Khz by its own digital output. A bit odd, as all the upsampling CD players we know outlay digital previous to any processing. But, as you will, see this may be moot, as using an outmost DAC with the CDE is, formed on what my ears told me, a ridiculous move.

Set Up Listening:

Unpacking this large player done strong only how easily built and ended this part is. The thick china faceplate, with the aware wooden Unico logo, was a steer for bruise eyes. There are the usual controls on the front, and a good sized display. we used an Element Cable Red Storm AC cable, that we use on all my digital source components, and Stager Silver Solid RCA interconnects. The CDE has XLR outputs as well, but my network runs singular ended. For the ruin of it, we used my Shakti Innovations Shakti Stone on tip as well.
