CNN has purchased 177 JVC GY-HM100U ProHD camcorders, that is seen as the probable initial step in a routine to reinstate hundreds of aging, tape-based DV camcorders right away in use via the line headlines network's universal operations. An extra camera buy is approaching in 2011, according to JVC.

A compact, handheld three-CCD camcorder, the GY-HM100U archives HD video at 35Mb/s in the MPEG-2 format matching with the XDCAM file-based workflow used via CNN. The JVC camcorder archives 1080i files in the MP4 format directly onto SDHC mental recall cards.
