In new months Google has mislaid auctions for thousands of patents owned by Novell and Nortel, many of that describe to technologies that may be used in smartphones. Ownership of the patents went to consortia made up of many tech firms inclusive Apple and Microsoft.
"Patents were meant to urge on innovation, but newly they are being used as a arms to end it," he wrote.
The blog post drew a quick greeting from Brad Smith, Microsoft's tip lawyer, who doubtful Mr Drummond's correlation of events.

While many firms are cheerful to situation licences for patents they own others do not. Apple, mentioned Mr Mueller, frequently denies rivals the luck to use the technologies it owns patents for in other devices.
Google alluded to this use in its blog post adage it was interested for Android to be a "competitive choice". If it is shut off from contracting some features then Android gadgets may be reduction easy to use than the of more determined rivals.
"Google should pick up more patents," mentioned Mr Mueller. "Their large inapplicable designation was not to obtain in to the obvious shopping business. They should have prepared for this."
TechCrunch sharp out that Google's blog post could be connected to merger aim InterDigital that is well known to own more than 8,000 patents many of that describe to mobile technologies.
Google is well known to be interested in appropriation InterDigital but could face contest from Apple, Microsoft and many others. While Google has billions of dollars on palm to financial its bid for InterDigital, the amalgamated might of its rivals may infer hard to beat.
