The Netherlands' obligatory telecom user KPN has one after another its assertive pull for expansion in pay TV by appropriation local line user Caiway for an undisclosed amount. Caiway delivers TV, broadband and telephony services in a few tools of the Netherlands by line and essential element infrastructures and had expected to obtain in to IPTV to spread its footprint. Instead it has been swept up by KPN's grander skeleton to turn a leading player in the Dutch pay-TV marketplace by reaching line together with its own IPTV and DTT subscribers.
KPN's new fortunes in pay TV have been mixed, with burly expansion in IPTV offset by slight reject in DTT and one after another wearing away of its subscriber bottom for mobile TV formed on the luckless DVB-H standard. As of June 1, KPN will follow the lead of many other operators by interlude its DVB-H-based mobile TV service. And similar to some other operators, KPN's mobile TV service got off to a great beginning in 2008, induction 40,000 customers in the initial year, but given then, subscriber figures have depressed usually in the AWOL of convincing calm and insufficient of ample quality. However, IPTV subscriptions rose strongly by 19.2 percent from 302,000 to 360,000 over the same period. This took KPN's complete number of pay-TV subscribers to 1.242 million, or 16 percent of the Dutch pay-TV market. The Caiway merger brings an extra 143,000 TV subscribers, raising KPN's share to 18 percent.
