Flipboard, the media app, has been declared most appropriate in uncover at the initial Appys - an awards rite organisers hope to make an annual fixture.
The MediaPost eventuality in San Francisco celebrated the most appropriate in downloadable program for mobile gadgets such as smartphones and inscription computers.
One of the organisers, Sergei Kogut, mentioned the Appys were a luck for small, eccentric developers to shine.
"All it takes is creativity and a great idea," he told the BBC World Service.
"The beauty of this new, rising intermediate of tiny applications is that anyone, really, can emanate one."
Designed for use on the iPad, Flipboard allows users to collect the websites they wish to emanate a personalised magazine.
Mr Kogut explained that segment of the reason for its success was that it was "not only for headlines but moreover headlines from your friends and your contacts".
Another winning app was Goby, in the mapping and location-based category.
As associate Appys organiser Ross Fadner explained: "Its objective is to help users emanate their own adventure.
"It gets you your stream place and it gives you options similar to anticipating cold things nearby, creation skeleton and exploring a new location."
Concept, design, user interface and user experience were amid the criteria used by the judges, he told the BBC, but most critical of all was the enhancement factor.
"Innovation reason means how well did the app precedence the device and its functionality," Mr Fadner said.
"The subject is would this app be any different, or any better, if it was only a website?" Mr Kogut added.
"What creates it special? How does it complement your life? What other ways does it give you to experience life improved by being an app?"
